Important, everyone please read this: IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING - SEAGO 150 AND 175 Newton Lifejackets
As the water we sail on is tidal. Every scheduled club sailing day our dedicated rescue boat is out on the water. This is manned using a rota system of club members and will always endeavour to stay close to novice and lesser experienced sailors to provide advice and or assistance. We also insist that you have a life jacket on when on the water.
The Avon Searider range can handle any inshore or offshore task. Their manoeuvrability and performance are very hard to equal. Their inflatable buoyancy deep 'V' seagoing hull and unique water ballast system easily enable Seariders to operate in the most difficult conditions.
Searider craft are in service with the Royal Navy and many others as well as the UK and US Coastguard. These high speed craft have also been approved by the British Marine Coastguard Agency as safety boats on stand-by vessels in the North Sea oil fields.
As well as the above reasons, Montrose Sailing Club opted for such a high spec. rescue boat to help cope with the very strong current in the Basin. On an outgoing tide this flows at up to 10 knots under the rail and road bridges, both of which are lower than the masts of most of the boats sailed in the club! It can be very important that we can rapidly get to any boats in trouble in that area of the Basin.
The handling of the rescue boat has been improved further this year by removing the sports seats, windscreen and spray deck and then replacing them with a centre console. This allows far more working area at the front of the boat. As well as along both sides.
